THE INNER PROMPTINGS
What do you do when you have the stirring within you to pray?
Do you wave off the feeling?
It can be tempting to ignore this prompting especially when you are feeling sleepy or amid an activity.
I woke up at about 1:00 am on June 22nd, 2020. I did not wake up to pray but to make use of the restroom.
It became difficult for me to sleep back afterward. I had a stirring in my heart to pray.
There was no zeal to do so, I needed to sleep so that I could catch up with the next day's activities.
The stirring lingered on, it was a fight between my spirit man and physical man. My mouth couldn't just open.
I was clueless about what to pray about, after about 30 minutes of struggle. I managed to open my mouth,
"Lord, I don't know why you want me to pray for this night. You know more than I do, take over and grant me the utterance"
Well, no lines of prayer came out. I was still clueless about what to say or how to even start the prayer. I began to sing hymns of worship.
I never uttered any line of prayer apart from the different songs of praise that were flowing through me.
At about 5:00 am, my phone rang, it was a call from my mum. It created curiosity within me, why would she call this time.
I didn't pick up the call, I needed to observe my morning rituals first.
My mum kept on calling alongside my sister.
When I picked the call, "madam, you are sleeping when we've been awake since 1:30 am"
Why was scared, was there a robbery attack?
Long story, cut short
There was a fire outbreak in our home, one of the rooms was burnt completely. How my parents, siblings, and cousins managed to make their way out from the room that night was nothing but a miracle from God.
I began to imagine what would have happened if I was still adamant about the promptings of the spirit within me.
I raise thanksgiving to God and was grateful for not ignoring the prompting as I had wanted to.
The devil has a way of cheating us out of our blessings, he'll present us with a thousand and one reasons on why we should not yield to the Spirits leading.
Never ignore the prompting in your heart to pray, it is the Spirit of God that is ministering to you.
You don't need a large voice to exclaim "my daughter, my daughter, I want you to pray about this and that" before you know that it is God that is speaking to you.
You don't need any special prophecy before you embark on that fast or spiritual discipline that is in your heart.
Don't be confused about the workings of the Spirit of God. Be conscious of the fact that, the moment you confessed Jesus as your Lord and Saviour and decided to quit sin. You had received the Spirit of God in your heart (the indwelling presence). This has nothing to do with the evidence of speaking in tongues.
To accept Christ and live for Him is the product of the indwelling presence of God in your life and not the Spirit upon.
He has promised to be a shield of defense for us.
Our response towards Him to an extent has a role to play in whatever we will receive or overcome in life.
Even when you don't know what to say, just respond by worshipping. The lines will come forth.
